If you run a local business in Agra, your Google Business Profile is probably your most valuable free marketing tool. It's what people see when they search for your business, or for something like "banquet hall in Agra" or "cafe near me". Yet most listings are half-filled, with old photos and unanswered reviews.
Here's a practical checklist to fix that. You can do most of it yourself in an afternoon.
1. Get the basics exactly right
- Business name: use your real-world name only. Adding keywords like "Best Hotel Agra" to the name breaks Google's rules and can get the listing suspended.
- Address or service area: if customers visit you, show your address. If you go to them, set a service area and hide your address.
- Phone and website: use a number that someone actually answers, and link to your website or a WhatsApp link.
- Hours: keep them accurate, including festival days. "Open now" is a filter many people use.
2. Choose categories carefully
Your primary category has a big effect on which searches you appear in. Pick the one that describes your core business most precisely, then add a few relevant secondary categories. A wedding lawn, for example, might use "Wedding venue" as primary and "Banquet hall" as secondary.
3. Add services and products
List every service you offer, with a short description. For restaurants, add your menu. For hotels, add room types. This helps Google match you to more specific searches.
4. Write a useful description
You get 750 characters. Mention what you do, who you serve, where you are and what makes you different. Write it for customers, not for Google, and don't paste links or phone numbers in it.
5. Upload real, recent photos
Listings with good photos tend to get more clicks and calls. Add your exterior (so people can find you), interior, products, team and work in progress. Add new photos every month.
Tip: take photos in daylight, keep the phone horizontal for exteriors, and avoid heavy filters. Real beats perfect.
6. Ask for reviews the right way
- Ask happy customers right after a good experience, while they still remember it.
- Send them your direct review link on WhatsApp so it takes one tap.
- Never buy reviews or offer rewards for them. Google removes fake reviews and can penalise the listing.
7. Reply to every review
Thank people by name for good reviews. For bad ones, reply calmly, apologise for the experience and offer to fix it offline. Future customers read your replies more closely than the complaint.
8. Post every week
Use Google posts for offers, events, new menu items or completed projects. It keeps your listing active and gives searchers a reason to choose you.
9. Fill in Q&A yourself
Add the questions customers ask most often, like parking, capacity or prices, and answer them clearly.
10. Keep details the same everywhere
Your name, address and phone should match exactly on your website, Justdial, IndiaMART, Facebook and every other listing. Mismatched details confuse Google.
11. Track what matters
Check your profile's performance each month: calls, direction requests, website clicks and which searches found you. These numbers matter more than views.
12. Don't change things constantly
Frequent edits to your name, address or category can trigger re-verification. Set things up properly once, then focus on photos, posts and reviews.
